Research Purpose and Questions

We aim to identify and understand AI’s new use cases in strategy formulation and execution, and how that affects the strategy consulting industry. The preliminary research questions are:

  • How are generative AI and AI agents currently used in strategy consulting projects and processes?
  • How do consultants and strategy clients perceive the recent changes in the industry driven by GenAI and AI agents?
  • How do key stakeholders expect strategy consulting to evolve as GenAI and AI agents mature?
  • How do these developments relate to and extend existing academic and practitioner knowledge on AI in professional services?

Key Focus Areas

How generative AI changes core value proposition, primary assets, differentiation logic, engagement model, and time horizon of the projects from current state to potential future state

How problem definition, research & data gathering, analysis & modelling, ideation & solution design, deliverables as well as client interaction are changing due to AI

How AI is changing the roles of consulting staff, project managers and partners, how each skill profile change, and what is the imlpication for team composition and leverage

What is AI’s impact on client expectations, perceived value of services, commercial models, make-buy boundaries as well as transparency and trust. Will there be radical shifts in clients’ capabilities and interests to make inhouse analysis and solutions or will external services thrive in the future?
